Mission Statement

PFM is a non-profit organization providing empowerment to endangered Malagasy youth by way of education and self-development opportunities that enable them to achieve their maximum potential as future leaders; and providing their families with economic assistance and opportunities while maintaining local traditions, as well as assisting the community by saving children at risk and fighting child trafficking.

 

The mission of PFM is to create self-sustaining models of development and projects that are:

- transferable (able to be locally owned and sustained by the people)

- accountable (teach accountability of resources and emphasize the inter-connectedness of all resources)

- measurable (there is a starting point and a closure point, and the project can be evaluated at any time as to its effectiveness)

 

PFM pursues its Mission currently with a four-point focus.

1. Enabling rural peoples to remain in the homeland areas

a. What is avoided by this approach?

i. Urban migration by rural peoples

iii. Teenage prostitution

iv. Urban poverty and crime

v. Family violence

vi. Deepening of the cycle of poverty

b. What is achieved by this approach?

i. Development of rural schools

ii. Preservation of Malagasy culture and heritage

iii. AIDS awareness and education

iv. Family planning training

v. Literacy training

vi. Basic skills (sewing and carpentry) training

vii. Promoting the role women in community leadership

viii. Preservation of the environment

2. Rescuing children at risk

a. Rescuing infants from dangerous tribal taboos

b. Rescuing children from tribal customs that marginalize them for life

3. Empowering newly migrated urban families

a. Developing/supporting Youth Basic Skills Training Centers in urban areasDeveloping

b. Learning/Socializing Centers for children of the urban poor

4. Keeping the "Brain-Trust" in Madagascar through the support and development of HECMMA   University, Madagascar's first private, accredited, non-sectarian university offering studies in:

- Agro-Industry

- Engineering

- Telecommunications

- Management-Marketing

-Tourism Industry
